My wonderful NCT friends
This post is a response to the article I read today about the author's experience of NCT classes. NCT brought me a set of really close mummy friends and I can't be more grateful for that.
In terms of what you learn and the ethos they promote, there are very mixed responses. The aim of this article is not to analyse the pros and cons of attending NCT classes. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16573250665154975230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5539110862933629301.post-57869993531236478392016-04-10T06:47:00.001+01:002016-06-19T09:18:29.226+01:00#Birth: Hypnobirthing - preparing for life
It is amazing to see how many people are discovering the benefits of hypnobirthing. The revolution is happening! More and more women are becoming aware, not only of the physiological impacts of relaxation during pregnancy and labour, but also gaining a greater understanding of the processes and procedures around birth. We are becoming more informed and more engaged with how our bodies birth.

Having completed an incredible hypnobirthing teaching diploma with hypnobirthing Yoda, Katharine Graves, Birth Story Hypnobirthing is now up and running.
To say I learnt a lot on the teacher training is an understatement. In just the same way that hypnobirthing gave me the tools and mindset to guide me calmly and peacefully through birth, this training has had a similar effect. Yep, I LOVE hypnobirthing. For me, it was a complete game changer and I tell everyone I can about how wonderful it is. So much so, that I have now trained to be a practitioner through KG Hypnobirthing, with the wonderful Katharine Graves. I want everyone to know how it can help in the most live-changing event of your life. Just sharing the love!

Never in a million years did I think I would give birth at home. But when I became pregnant, something changed and suddenly, the thought of being in a hospital, when I had never been in one before, seemed absurd. And when I discovered hypnobirthing...well that was game over for hospital birthing if I could help it.

Push!!! PUSH!!!!!
The TV image of birth always involves this phrase, without a doubt. It is probably the most common phrase associated with the dialogue of birth.
What does it conjure in your mind?
The point is that words always conjure up certain imagery. We are programmed to match words with images. Our subconscious collects these images over time, and stores them. I hate that term. It suggests that any other way of getting birth is not 'natural'. The reality is that growing and having a baby is natural. The end.

'Filled with lots of meaning, with everything I need. Spiritually healing, words that comfort' (Joan Armatrading)
How often, though, do words cut like a knife, instead of healing and comforting us?
We can be so sensitive to words, and this is never more true during pregnancy and labour when we are in high defense mode, protecting our babies and ourselves from harm. Hum...well obviously I know you're NOT one of THOSE women...whatever the bloody hell that means! You're a woman who maybe wants to feel a bit of safety within their own environment. During the last month of pregnancy, my husband commented that he had never known me so chilled in the ten years he had known me.
I am not one of those chilled horizontal types.

The first 100 days post partum. The mist. The void. The incredible, amazing, time zapping, happy, sad, exhausting, joyful, scary, daunting, lonely, awe-inspiring time after giving birth.

2015...a crazy year of ups and downs when I gave birth to my wonderful, beautiful baby girl. 2015 threw my world upside down and back to front. It felt complicated and busy. It didn't always feel particularly simple.
I have heard two of my friends already hope for a simpler 2016. A more level and calmer year.
